Hi,

In about two weeks I and my family go to Portugal to stay for 2-3 weeks. In that period I got to train (as always). My questions are; where to boulder (indoor and outdoor) around Lisbon, Arrabida and Coimbra?

I’ve been to Guia and climbed some boulders and also some up at Sintra. The problem for me has been to find a good guide book for the Sintra bouldering. And also, since the Econauta boulder gym in Lisbon shut down – where to go now?

Could you please help a boulderer in need?

Thanks!

/Mats

Hi Mats,
My first suggestion would be for you to buy the Topo @ http://bouldersintra.wordpress.com/topo/
The indoor climbing spot will be closed by the time you arrive! So, the best thing will be to go outdoor!
When you are closer to the arrival date, let me know, and I will see if I can set you up with some locals to show you around.
Greetings
R.

Hi!

I just moved to beautiful Lisboa!
And already had the pleasure of an introduction to the crags in Cascais and Sintra.
However I’m wondering wether you know if there is an indoor climbing center in Lisboa, and since I didn’t bring any climbing partner, any active climbing organizations in Lisboa?

Thank you!!!

All the best,
Elise

Hello,

Has the Econauta gym in Lisbon closed down permanently? Are there other boulder/route climbing gyms in or close to Lisbon?

Do you guys think it would be easy for a foreigner (who doesn’t speak Portuguese) to find climbing partners there?

Thanks!

Hello Liz,
There are no indoor climbing gyms were you can practice these days… but, in Portugal, during the summer it is not such a big problem.
About finding partners it’s easy, just send a message in English to the following sites:

Sports climbing Facebook Group: “Escalada Desportiva”
Web climbing forum: http://www.vertigem-mag.com/forum
Boulder Facebook Group: “Boulder Sintra”
Deep-Water Solo Facebook Group: “DWS – Portugal”

Hope you have a good time.
Cheers
R.
